Yrn.me, Nigeria’s first URL shortening service launched by Ahmad Mukoshy in 2010, has just announced the pre-release of a (Read more…) plugin that auto-shrinks all your blog posts.
The URL shortening service can shorten up to 2,000 characters length of web addresses to just 20 characters.
Since this is a pre-release, the plugin is yet to be submitted to WordPress so you can easily install it and receive updates without any technical guide.
For now, to install the Yrn.me for WordPress v0.1 Pre-release version, you’ll need to download here, then follow these technical steps:
1. Unzip the folder yrn-for-wordpress.zip to grab a folder “yrn_me” and a “read-me.txt” file
2. Copy the folder “yrn_me” to your wordpress’s “/wp-content/plugins/” directory and head on to your usual admin page for wordpress
3. Go to plugins and activate “Yrn.Me for WordPress”
The plugin would be released fully, and then, you’ll be able to monitor your links graphical statistics right from your wordpress dashboard.
Yrn.me has since been adopted by Nigerian web users, but has yet to cause a disruption in the local URL shortening space currently being dominated by bit.ly and Twitter’s t.co in Nigeria.
While Yrn.me offers a local alternative to shortening those long URLs, it is yet to be seen if there’ll be a general shift from other URL shorteners to this service.
