Thank God It’s Friday once again, after a very stressful and eventful week. Here are the Top Stories that made headlines this week all over the Nigerian webspace.

 

Entertainment

 Queens of Nollywood, Omotola, Genevieve, Mercy Johnson and Funke Akindele were all nominated for the Screen Nation Awards, tagged the UK Oscars. For the first time African films and actors are receiving nominations from the highly coveted awards which means African films have started gaining good recognition worldwide.

 

Rumours surfaced on social networking sites Twitter & Facebook alleging that Omotola Jalade Ekehinde had been involved in an auto crash in Abuja &was in a bad condition. The actress was however quick to refute these rumours by tweeting that she was fine and in good shape.

 

Chocolate City hook master, Brymo, after so many successful features finally dropped his first official single titled “ARA” which received so many positive responses and reviews.

 

The rave of the moment Wizzy Wizzy Wizkid once again silenced his haters by bagging a nomination for the 2011 MTV European Music Awards, alongside Fally Ipupa, Cabo Snoop and Black Coffee. The “Hola at your boy” singer also recently purchased a VW Convertible to replace his stolen Honda i-VTEC. The boy is surely growing bigger and bigger. Congrats.

 

King of all the African queens and multiple award winning legend, 2 face Idibia recently turned 36 & celebrated it with a lavish bash at the Victoria Garden City in Lagos. Many more years 2 baba.

 

Rapper Ruggedman recently bumped up his entrepreneurial side by launching his T.S.W by Ruggedman fashion line with fabulous heels for the ladies and wristwatches for men. Rugged might just take his place behind Jay Z and P.Diddy on the Forbes Rich Kings. Dreams come true.

 

International music brand TRACE TV made it’s official launch in the country, marking another milestone in Nigerian entertainment.

 Edo State firebrand governor, Adams Oshiomole earlier in the week humiliated and ordered the arrest of the chairman of the Task Force on Demolition of illegal structures in Edo State, Major Lawrence Loye (Rtd), obviously dissatisfied with some of the task force’s demolitions.

 

Abia State University was in the spotlight as a gang of 5 boys allegedly raped a girl and had the atrocity recorded in a video. The case is still ongoing , with the National Assembly mandating the IG of  police to investigate the matter and report back to them.

 

If by you still do not fear Nigerian girls then I urge you to have a rethink. During the week in UNILAG, a girl was said to have bathed her colleague with hot oil over a boyfriend – related issue.

 

 Sports

Striker Yakubu Aiyebeni was on target twice over the weekend for Blackburn Rovers as they added to the mystery of Arsene Wenger & his Arsenal team with a 4 – 3 victory.

 

Nigeria continued it’s downward movement in the latest FIFA rankings by dropping to the 43rd position.
