Weekly Top Stories Recap – Sept 16

Another week filled with so much drama in one of the most entertaining countries on planet earth (I honestly think the United Nations should give us this award).

And as always only one website on planet earth provides you with all the content and gist from all over Nigeria. So here once again is how it all went down.

Entertainment

In it’s usual manner of lack of originality, Nollywood released yet another movie titled “Lady Gaga”, in addition to Beyonce, Rihanna annd other unnecesary movies with similar titles.

Probably inspired by all the headphones in the studio, Beat 99.9 fm Program Director, Olisa Adibua, decided to unleash his own “Beats By Olisa” franchise, this time on his co-worker Adewunmi Oyekanmi in a highly publicized show of brutality. Olisa was served a 4 week suspension as a result of that.

Lady of songs Christy Essien-Ibokwe was finally laid to rest in her home town in Awka, Anambra State. Adieu Mama, we would miss you greatly.

Still on our fallen entertainers, the music industry lost yet another promising artist, Obiajulu Kenneth Nwaozor, popularly known as MC Loph. The Osondi Owendi crooner died in an auto crash on his way to Anambra to prepare for his traditional wedding along with his only sister. His fiancée however survived with a broken arm and their unborn child. Rest In Peace brother.

Iconic author Chinua Achebe won a legal battle against American Rapper 50 Cent, who has a new movie he intended to title “Things Fall Apart”.

Organisers of Nigerian Hip Hop Award, the Headies finally set a date for the Urban music award at New Expo Hall of Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos on Saturday, October 22, 2011.

News & Politics

While the US marked the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Jos suffered yet another attack as twin bombs exploded at a popular drinking spot in its West of Mines area.

The world-famous Boko Haram  sent out threats to UI, UNIBEN and 18 other Universities as part of their agenda to stop Western Education, leaving one to wonder why the government still hasn’t identified the ghosts behind this organisation.

The National president of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor recently called on President Goodluck Jonathan to allow Nigerians carry arms. Certain sections of the public tend to agree with him since the government has shown it is incapable of providing security for its citizens.

And in what has definitely been the most entertaining prank ever to circulate in Nigeria, the digits 09141 were accused of killing 10 people in Wukari and relatives of the victims decided to send out text messages and broadcasts on social networks warning Nigerians not to pick any phone call originating from the said numbers. The accused 09141 was however not available for questioning as at the time of filing this report.

Sports

Coach of the Super Falcons, Eucharia Uche, is being probed by world football governing body, FIFA for homophobic remarks she made while being interviewed by the New York Times on the eve of the Female World Cup in Germany.
