Weekly Top Stories Recap – Sept 9

It’s been an eventful week so far and as usual Sturvs did not relent in serving you the hottest stories buzzing the Nigerian internet world. Just incase you missed out or want to go down memory lane, here’s a recap of the top stories that made headlines this week.

 

Entertainment

The week began with excitement still overflowing from sensational Nollywood star, Mercy Johnson’s wedding. Eyebrows were also raised at a number of notable stars that were absent from the event. Their absense however could not stop former Miss Johnson from tying the knot with Prince Odi, a union which faced so much controversy. Catch the pics

 

And in New York, the annual Nigerian Entertainment Awards took place at the Sharp Theatre, Symphony Space. The show hosted by the ever glamourous Funke Akindele (Jenifa) and comedian Julius Agwu saw some surprising winners emerge. Here’s a list of the Winners.

From the House of Ginjah, Terry G decided to “knack his apako” on a low key this time, with an unexpected Secret Wedding in Lagos.

 

Controversial actress, Tonto Dike once again made headlines as she was involved in a scuffle with Ghanian actor Van Vicker at a movie location. It all had to do with her smoking on the set . Anyway the movie directors have warned her not to return to Ghana till she makes an official apology to Van Vicker.

 

Nollywood lost another of its jewels, Geraldine Ekeocha after a fibroid operation in Enugu. May her gentle soul rest in peace

Choc boy Jesse Jags also featured on the US billboard charts “Next Big Sound 25″ category. Can u smell the grammy coming closer to Nigeria?

 

News & Politics

On the 10th year anniversary of the crises in Jos, pandemonium broke out again as a group of fulani herdsmen attacked and killed a family 8 in a midnight raid.

In Libya, it was reported that over 200 Nigerians have been arrested and detained as the rebels continue to clamp down on so called Black immigrants.

Also from Libya, some Nigerian women are said to be among victims of a gang rape carried out by the rebels in a refugee camp for black Africans in a town six miles west of Tripoli.

Sports

Argentina beat the Super Eagles of Nigeria 3 – 1 in Bangladesh, in a revenge mission led by the native doctor of football, Lionel Messi. However Nigeria emerged winners overall with an aggregate score of 5 – 4, having earlier beaten a cheerleader Argentine squad 4 – 1 in Abuja.
