REVIEW: Wizkid’s Superstar Album

After two listens I pretty much didn’t disagree with myself too much on the quality of each of the 16 tracks on this masterpiece. The album starts out with the perfect tone and ends off the right way. Wizkid should be applauded for this debut as he makes it look so easy. His vocal maneuvers are like breathing for him and its easy to tell this dude is truly talented. He is a younger Wande Coal with the swag of an urban teenager and tact with making women feel good. He might have learnt that from his big brother Banky W. We all know Wizkid’s fanbase was at least 60% female after Hola at your Boy but he drew back the dudes with Dont Dull.

Call My Name – Mad jam, huge international collabo potential on a remix. Soulja boy type track – 7.5

No Lele – Nice confidence & determination track – 6.5

Scatter The Floor – Nice flow. Good use of lines from other songs. Heavy rock drums. Super “rockstarish” song – 7

Pakurumo - More fuji sounding drums. Wizkid’s melodious voice shines in this track. He goes thru many chic names like Funke Halimaa, Folake. Then he starts hailing his parents (I think) & Fashola. My boy don hammer – 7

Slow Whine ft. Banky W – Nice slower club dance song that will make girls do exactly what the title says. Big bro Banky W comes in to bless the track too. At this point im kinda like ok next track…and I’m a bit hungry for a diffferent side if Wizkid – 5.5

Love My Baby – Another slower jam. Ok, listening and trying to grasp the track. Nice & sweet message, and maybe a tiny little bit of Sean Kingston, till the snears come in. beat changes and im thinking this should have been the beat from the beginning. Nice interlude that reminds me of Don jazzy’s Close to you days – 8

Update: this track is a favorite among some African Americans who listened to the album.

Gidi Girl – Heard this one before. nice and slow step song. more r&b. Toasting jam – 6

Oluwa Lo Ni – Easy going spiritual & motivational song. A touch of Bobby Valentino – 7

Dont Dull – No need to explain this one – 8

Tease Me / Bad Guyz – No need to explain this either – 9

EME Boyz ft Banky W & Skales – Sounds like a mix between scatter the floor and pakurumo, but hey its an album isnt it. there shd be a common sound right? – 6

What You Wanna Do – Tight house beat. Jand folk will love this – 7

For Me ft. Wande Coal – Euro sound with African percussion. Lagos dance song, lyrics arent too catchy tho, but beat is madt – 8.5

Hola at Your Boy – This song made Wizzy. isnt old yet. the song needs a heavyweight remix like lagos party – 9

Wad Up ft D’Prince – Nice beat. dprince’s verse starts out funny but balances and makes sense – 6.5

Shout Out – Fast and nice end-of-album track. Verses & bridge kinda sound better than the hook tho. 6.5

Wiz Party - Currently one of the hottest club songs in Nigeria, this song has a fluctuating feel-good feel to it and the beat makes plenty sense -10

Overall

This album will too sell sha. I could place it against Wande Coals album, now im not sure which I’ll pick, but it comes close. It’s a good start for Wizkid with the expected collabos, but for some reason I expected Dotstar on the album, and maybe MoCheddah.
